Villalobos, Modesto City Schools Trustee
Los Lobos broke into the mainstream music scene with its stirring
rendition of the Richie Valens classic “La Bamba” for the big-screen
movie, but began in 1973 as Los Lobos Del Este Los Angeles. The band has
evolved into a respected artistic entity searching for themes and topics
that are an interpretive pulse of our times. Using musical molds built on
the blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin and the group's own Mexican-American
heritage, Los Lobos has never beat fans over the head with politics or
agendas. Instead, the band subtly challenges them with conscienceness-raising
songs and thought-provoking lyrics.

Craven
Trio
Jazz, Blues, Latin, Folk |
| Joe Craven,
strings and found sound, John R. Burr (keyboards), and Kendrick
Freeman (drums/percussion) serve a bouquet of jazz, blues, Latin, and
folk. Whether tweaking an old time fiddle tune or rendering original jazz,
the sound is always innovative and captivates audiences nationwide.
"Everything Joe touches turns to music," says David Grisman, who Joe
played with for almost 17 years. No one who saw Joe wring a percussion
concerto from his garbage-bag raincoat during a downpour at the Strawberry
Music Festival could disagree. JCT will celebrate new work from their
recent recording at our 18th season finale.
